  • Stressed out

My boyfriend, who's currently visiting me on a tourist B-2 visa, and I want to get married. He's been here for about 2 months. I'm looking at the mountains of paperwork involved and don't know where or how to begin.

Is this really possible to do? He entered legally, so no problem there. We had no previous intention, so that's not an issue.

I may have a problem with the affidivat of support, however, as I've only been working for 3 months and my salary is barely about the 125% line that it needs to be.

Another problem is he's from Laos, the countryside at that - so no birth certificate.

I don't know what to do.

I stressed and scared, but confident this is what we want to do - get married.

What should be our first steps? And how do we go about seeking a good lawyer?

I understand we apply the I-130 at the same time as applying for adjustment of status. What I don't understand is all the paperwork involved for AOS.

Can someone please help me out?

    Thanks.

First thing, you should get a marriage license, then after sometime schedule your wedding. Then wait for the copy of your marriage certificate because you will be needing this when you submit the application forms. So when you have your MC with you, file for i-130, i-485, EAD for your husband.

About your affidavit of support, find somebody who can help support you and ur husband, can be a family relative or even your employer would be good keep in mind that their salary should be more than enough (just to be sure).

Regarding the birth certificate, you might need a police clearance or something else, I am not familiar with this kind of problem, I hope somebody can help you out.

For the lawyer, you can just google it you can always read their credentials in their site to find out if they are any good. I think there are also immigration lawyers available in this site. Go to the yellow pages section and you'll find it there!! Don't stress out too much ok? You better start doing this because time is precious. I hope I was able to answer all of your questions!! Smile!!

      more help

My current income is enought. But I've only been employed for a few months.

      Is this a problem?

      I am so confused.

My income from last year is so small - I was working in Laos. So, that won't help me out. My other two previous years show that I'm able to make sufficient funds, tho, as I was working in the US.

I can't find another sponsor, that's the problem. No one wants to take on the responsibility.

      What do I do?

And, how do we go about getting married? just get the license and find someone to do the ceremony?

I'm so scared, it's hard to smile.

I need all the help I can get.

      Thanks.

If you can't find a sponsor for you.. I don't know how USCIS will approve your case if you are below the poverty limit.. So i guess you have to seek for a lawyer's advise.

About the license go to your county township or call them.. Find out what is their process in getting a marriage license.. then ask them if one of their judge can marry you after they issue you the license.

You don't have to be scared, you can still wear a smile even if you don't feel like it. This how we should live, live each day with a smile. Take it easy!
