  • BC Affidavit original or copy..?

    Hi,

I am in process of filing I-485.
I don't have birth certificate(BC) and not able to get non-availability of BC.
Hence I am submitting affidavit signed by my parent.
I would like to know if I need to submit original affidavit to USCIS OR copy of affidavit will do.

    Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I think only the copy of affidavit will be fine for USCIS..
You may need the original affidavit later, when you go in for interview...
    I'm also doing the same.

      All,

I am also not able to get either Birth certficate or Non-availability certificate. I sent email to Indian Consulate, SFO regarding BC. Consulate replyed that they will issue birth certifcate based on PP and that certficate is accaptable to INS.

Any o idea about this. Is it okay to submit this BC, some of my friend told that RFE will come if u submit BC issued from consulate.

Any input will be great help.

      Thanks.

        Guys,

I am exactly in the same boat.

I dont have a bith certificate and the corporation officers of my place of birth want me to get a court order to search my birth records and issue a "Non availability certificate" . And I know its going to be a longer process than my GC.

SO I got a BC issed by Indian consulate Chicago.

There are mixed opinoins about this in the immigration forums. But my husband's company lawyer has given a checklist which clearly states "BC issued by Indian consulates in the US are not acceptable".

But there are people who have mentioned in the forums that they got their GC by submitting the BC from consulates.

So am in peak of confusion.

Pls guys, let me know how you are going to proceed with this.

        Awaiting your replies.

        Thanks
