Delayed I-485 Security Background check

I am stuck 485 from almost 2005 May (thts when we applied for 485) with a priority date of April 2000 (yes 2000 )

Till date no news on anything. my Attorney is not of much help either. enquired with USCIS a few times no satisfactory response at all. finally took a infopass appointment. went there but really did not meet any officer at desk the lady in the lobby took my receipt no. keyed it in the computer and said it is pending Background check and it might take any number of days from months to several years and nothing else can be done at this point.

Any help with information from fellow friends like you that might help people like me please? like what My Attorney can do? What can I do? anything...?

you can only pray my freind ! nobody can do anything in this regard. I am stuck since March 2006 in seciurity checks. nobody knows why it takes them so long to do security checks.

Security checks is there wild card which they use to stop too many people from getting approved. Just relaxed and enjoy the fact that ur at least lucky to be able to file I 485. There are thousands who can not say the same.

Summary - You can not do anything.

Dont worry, I filled my I-485 in April 2004, I already gave my finger prints for 3 times.......my case is also stuck in FBI Name check........

My situation:

PD April 2001 EB2
I-140 approved Dec 2001.

Downsized by company but I-140 not withdrawn.

Changed several companies.

Filed GC again through company XYZ.
PD Dec 2003 EB3
I-140 approved Nov 2004
I-485 pending and currently working on EAD.

Jan 2007 - Lawyer sent letter to USCIS to use older PD (April 2001)
Nothing happened.
March 2007 - Case transferred from VSC to TSC.

May 24 2007 - Called USCIS customer service number and inquired why it is taking so long. I got a reply from them on July 2 2007:

"The status of this request is:

The processing of your case has been delayed. A check of our records establishes that your case is not yet ready for decision, as the required investigation into your background remains open.

Until the background investigation is completed, we cannot move forward on your case. These background checks are required to be completed on all applicants who apply for the immigration benefit you are seeking. We will make every effort to make a decision on this case as soon as the background checks are complete. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please contact us by calling our customer service number provided below."

I went to the local USCIS office to inquire about my I-485 status. The lady officer said that fingerprint check is cleared but FBI name check is pending. She said that it takes 6 months to 5 years for the results to come.
