  • I-485: Alien Number

    For the Principal Applicant
In the I-485 form, where they have asked for Alien Number.....should I enter the Alien Number that I see in my I-140 approval notice?

    For the Spouse
My Wife had an EAD while she was on L2 visa. Then she is currently on a H1B. So, that EAD is now not valid. But in that EAD there was a Alien Number. Now, when I submit the I-485 for my wife also.....should I mention the Alien Number that was in her old EAD(that she got while she was on L2)?

    Senior Members...please clarify

My understanding- The Alien # stated in i-140 approval should be used for filing the I-485 form. As you are the primary applicant and your wife is dependent she won't have an alien number.

Please validate with your lawyer or Company HR.

        A #

A # is given to all immigrants, wherein you on H1B and your wife on H4, both will have their own A #.

This A# is similar to your SSN and remains with you for life. This is mentioned in your final GC, the actual card that you receive and also mentioned in the Naturalization certificate when you become the United States citizen 5 years after your GC.

In addition, this same A# is to be mentioned in the U.S. passport application after your naturalization.

        Hope this helps.

        Good luck.
