  • 485 Interview

I am a Canadian Citizen living in the United States, married to an American Citizen for 4 years.

We applied all immigration papers in Feb. 2007. I have received a card allowing me to work, I have had biometrics done, I have gotten my SSN. On Thursday July 19, 2007 we went for an interview Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS.

From what I had read on this board, I was under the impression that we would find out if I was approved immediately after the interview and would get a stamp in my passport at that time. Well, I asked the woman that conducted the interview what happens now and she said we would receive the decision in the mail.

I am now concerned that there is a problem, as it seems that people find out if they are approved at the time of the interview. Can someone tell me if I should be concerned.

    Thank you for your help.

Not all decisions are made at the time of the interview. I also read a lot of stuff that said you get approved or denied on the day, only to realize that those were peoples experiences pre-9/11 and a long time ago.

It seems moderately standard now that they will let you know post-interview after they properly review you. Like the above poster said, there might be something they are not so sure of and have to review it first. So, I guess..be patient. haha We are already all so patient but, all you can do is wait.

Thank you for all your replies. I feel better now knowing that not everyone gets the stamp of approval at their interview. I will just sit back and wait now.

Yes do not worry. I am a Canadian citizen as well and married to an American. I had my interview way back in early Sept and they still have not made a decision. THe posters on this thread are so right, just have patience and do not worry about it.
But I must say, get yourself a travel document if you plan to go back to Canada or another country for a visit. The current fee is about 180 and i read its going up to 300 on the 1st of August.
