2nd fingerprint notice received too late

My I-485 application has been pending at TSC (after getting transferred from VSC earlier this year). I had done my first round of fingerprinting in 2005. Yesterday I received another notice for fingerprinting - except this one reached me on the day I had the appointment!!!!! USCIS mailed it to me on July 23rd and expected me to be there on July 27th !!??
Needless to say the mail reached me too late and I did not make the appointment, but the notice says that if I don't show up, my I-485 will be considered abandoned! Are they serious?
The only weird thing is, there is no update on my online case status - the last time I got a fingerprint notice, the online case status was updated.
Perhaps this notice was sent out erroneously? Anyone else have this experience?

why not call the number they mentioned and explain the situation to get a new appointment.

Dont panic it is ok and happens all the time.

Sometimes they issue notices but take their time mailing it out.
