Living outside after filing AOS

Dear Sir/Madam,

I shall appreciate any answer to this query.
How long H4 holder can live outside US after filing their AOS in US?
Can they live and work outside US for example in Canada as permenant residents or in China if they have valid H4 visa to re-enter US?

There is no limit how long they stay outside US. They will have to come back
to US for things like fingeprinting, green card stamping etc.
