Anyone else here in the follow situation?

Here is my story. I came to the US in 2001 as a Computer Analyst and worked under a TN Visa. I renewed each year for about 4 years (ie go to the border ..pay the $56..etc)
But during this time, I had met my wife (who is American). Customs told me that it was important that I change my status to permanent residence.
So I went through the nice very cheap process (note sarcasism) of what most here are going for.
Everything was fine and dandy until I started this process. I have gone through the interview, etc and have been waiting for almost 1.5 years.
But here is my situation. My salary is not where it should be and my job is not as challenging as I woud like it to be.
I am not bragging, but I have actually got several calls from a few companies that would offer me about 30% more than I make right now. But since I do not have a green card I am not able to even apply for these jobs until the green card goes through.

The way I look at it, by staying in the US with my current situation I am basically living in a prison. I am forbidden to apply for jobs down here and if I lost my job I would be sol.

I have like the states and the people here are great in most cases (just like everywhere else), but i have NO INTENTION of settling here for life. How degrading is it, when they tell you that you cannot visit your home country unless you have a travel document? I did get a travel document but of course that takes time as well. I am only here for a while and my wife is a big fan of Canada as well. So we do plan to move up once I find a decent job.

The US as some of the greatest opportunities in the world but when you stuck in their process, you are basically painting yourself into a corner.

Best of luck to everyone who is in a similar position.
Note - I have no criminal record, bad history.. simply just a professional who fell in love with someone who happen to be American.

    Hi!

If you applied for AOS you probably have got your EAD right? Than you can change employers with that

I do not understand exactly what you are complaning about... where are you right now in the Adjustment of Status process?

Did you have your interview already and you are stuck in FBI namecheck? that is my guess...

Either way, you could have applied for an EAD (Employment Authorization Document) when you first filed for Adjustment of Status. And changed your job with that. Look at I-765 at the USCIS website and more information here:
