I-485 Filing

I had filed my i-485 application (not through any attorney) and the application reached Nebraska Center PO Box on 27th July. Though Nebraska Center is currently processing applications that reached on 29th July, I have not got any receipt # and my checks have not been cleared.

(i) Is there any issue with applicant doing a self-filing (not going through an attorney)?
(ii) I had posted my application with a delivery confirmation but not as certified mail. Is there a possibility of my application getting lost as I had not sent it as a certfied mail?

there are several people waiting, apparently some application were shipped to other centers because of the load. So that is causing the delays.
