  • No Identification for Initial Interview

    Hello,

Thank you in advance to the immigration adviser who will answer this!

My issue is that I have no form of identification whatsoever to take to my interview! I have never had ID and my passport is expired (I was 5 years old in the picture, 27 now).

I managed to talk my way into getting the fingerprints (thanks to a very kind immigration officer).

Im not even sure if I can get into the buidling without ID. I have not found any way around this as most people have some form of ID.

I can not be issued an ID because I have no social security number and I cant renew my passport without some sort of status in the U.S.

I am very worried and completely confused as to what to do.

My second question is, when do I receive my EAD? How long after the interview?

I have been here since i was 6 years old, but my dad never filed my papers for me. I did it myself (with him sponsoring) in 2001 and I am finally at this point.

I have never driven a car illegally (no license) and I have obeyed all laws and never tried to work the system, what do I do?

    Extremely worried,

    -Ddejam

You could try applying for a "State ID" at the same place where you would get a driver's license. That would be a valid ID and you may not need a SSN.

      State Id

I am from California, they require a social security number. Any other ideas anyone? Will a letter from my lawyer help? What are the chances of them excepting my expired passport? It is in downtown Los Angeles, will I be able to even enter the building?

Sorry for all the questions, but lastly how long does it take for my EAD to arrive after the interview?

This website is amazing, thank you to everyone. I can not wait to really start living my life.

The EAD and its arrival has nothing to do with when the interview takes place. Originally you should receive the EAD 60-90 days after you applied for it, sometimes it gets delayed.

Why haven't you renewed your passport with your local country's consulate/embassy?

I am from Iran, and they do not allow you to renew your passport unless you have status here. I applied (post priority date) in July, did biometrics in September. the only thing I have a recieved since then is the interview notice. Will the EAD come before my interview? Is that possible. Once again thank you very much, it means a lot that someone is out there to help.

You do have a status here, you are "pending AOS applicant". People's EAD arrive at different times, it is hard to say, I received mine 1 week after the interview... some people get it months after the interview and some people before the interview... it can not be predicted.
