Here is my situation: my wife and I had our green card interview in August of 2006 and the site has not changed my status for over 1.5 years.
I have already gone through one travel document and here is my dilemma:

A grandparent of mine just passed away and although I could not make it to the funeral.. they are going to have a memorial service in May-June.

My problem is should put out 300 bucks and potentially get my green card soon meaning I am out the money (as you can travel with a green card)?
Or should I wait it out?
Also, if I do apply for a travel document does that mean and say I dont have it near the end of May, can I go to my local office and request an emergency document as it will be a funeral for a close one.

If anyone has advice I would really appreciate it in this time of need.

Guess they do not accept checks right for travel document as well?

    Thank you so kindly...
    Jason

This is simple, you SHOULD NOT leave the USA while you AOS is pending with an ADVANCE PAROLE document. (i-131)

If you do leave, your AOS will be considered abandoned. You are stuck in namecheck, and nobody knows who long before it clears.

Apply for a travel document (I-131), is the only way you can leave the USA and come back without losing your future green card.
