Can H1 be used after getting EAD?

After my I-140 was approved, I got my H1 extended till 2010. Later, my I-485 cleared and I got my EAD too. I am planning to continue with my current employer for few more years. So can I just keep my H1 and not apply for EAD next year? I am planning to go to India this year. Should I apply for AP or can I just go to the Chennai consulate and get the visa stamping?

yes H1 can be used as long as it is valid.

But it will be advisable to keep EAD and especially AP current because there are no guarantees that you will get a stamp in timely fashion when travelling abroad. and if for any reason in this downturn you lose your job, though your I-485 will keep you in status you will not be able to work trill you have actual EAD in hand.
