I am in the process of I-485, I finished the finger print process in Feb, anyone know how long it take to get the green card after fingerprint process? My H1-B visa expire on Oct, and my EAD card expire on Nov, since my i-485 is in process, do I still have to renew my H1-B visa? Can I just keep on renew my EAD card untill I get the green card so that I can keep working? Thanks for all your help

485, EAD, H-1
How long it takes to get the green card after fingerprint process?
- Finger print has nothing to do with the time of procssing of 485. It is jsut that it is required. Your 485 will be processed according to your Receipt/Notice date.
Currently INS is reviewing cases whihc were filed in July/Aug. 2001. Your turn will come successively depending on your filing date. It does not matter if you do the FP today or after a month or di last month.
* My H1-B visa expire on Oct, and my EAD card expire on Nov, since my i-485 is in process, do I still have to renew my H1-B visa?
- It depends what you want to use. If you want to continue your H status, you must renew it. If you want to use EAD (let's say for the same job, or you want to do another part time job), you must renew EAD.
* Can I just keep on renew my EAD card untill I get the green card so that I can keep working?
- Yes, you can continue renewing EAD until your 485 decision comes.

EAD
EAD is yours. If you are fired, you can another employer on the basis of your EAD. EAD has no attachement with your current employment, As long as your 485 is pending, whether you sit at home or find a new job using EAD, it is upto you. Of course, your H-1 will be cancelled if you are fired, and you can not transfer your H-1 if you get another job within a certain time. But, you don't have to transfer H-1 as you can use the EAD for the new job.
