Inquiry Regarding I-485

I am writing to inquire about Supplement A to the I-485 form. It states on the USCIS website that this must be submitted as well and is an additional $1000.00. Is this the case? Also, do you suggest use of an immigration lawyer during the process of adjustment of status?
