I am filing I-130 & I-485 for my mother, but we also need to travel this summer so I also want to file for travel documents (advance parole/reentry permit) for her. What would give me quicker/better processing--filing it together with the above or waiting for a receipt letter for initial docs and then filing for travel. Doesn't it look funny that she is applying for permanent residency and already want to travel and be out of the country for 2-3 months? Do they approve it without a problem if your reason is to travel due to family relted needs and finalizing personal matters?? Please advise. Thank you.

File all forms together, including I-131, there is no need to explain why she needs to travel or anything. Everybody files for the whole package together (or they should) it is much better this way.Disclaimer: The information you obtain from me at this forum is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice. Expedite form I-131
Thank you.
Do you think writing "Expedite" on the I-131 form would do anything? I noticed in the instructions to I-131 you can write expedite if you apply for reentry permit or Refudgy Travel Document. It doesn't say that for advance parole-will it hurt?

Silly me--I can just picture the clarks showing my "expedite" to each other and having a good laugh--you are funny Pretorian. You know so much, you must be one of the officers or clarks, etc. Anyway, we are hoping to go on vacation mid July, beginning of August, and since expedite won't help, I'm starting to pray.
Another question. Form I-864-Affidavit of Support. Can I list my IRA's as assets? I don't have much in regular accounts but we have over fourty thousand in IRAs and seventy thousand in a house--we need it all to qualify. Do they look at IRA's as long term investment and harder to cash?
Thank you for all your great advice.

Look at the I-864 instructions. It is not very hard to qualify. The poverty guidelines for 2008 are out (I-864P) and it requires around 20k for 2 people.
As far as being an Immigration Officer, I am not one... yetDisclaimer: The information you obtain from me at this forum is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice. You should consult an attorney for individual advice regarding your own situation.

Yes, I read everything--it is higher for 6 people so we need to use assets to qualify till I graduate in couple of months. So you think I can use IRAs or you wouldn't advice it (no option of waiting with filing the paperwork.)
What does it take to be an Immigration Office, anyway???
