  • Interview Passed :)

Got my green card today. Passport stamped.
The hardest part of the entire process was all the paper work, copying everything and getting to the interview itselt (traffic).
After staying up all night copying the paper work, we woke up and left one hour before the interview time. We arrived 15 mins before the scheduled time, to find no line at all, the day was looking good. The security guards were nice and informative. We met our attorney in the small and quaint waiting room, dropping out appointment letter in the box upon entering. After a 30min wait (we were laughing and talking because there was nothing to hide) the interviewer called my name and we followed her into her office.
She was very pleasant. This is how it went.....

Raise your right hand and swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth.
    We did

She asked some basic questions, have you ever......
To which the answer for all is no

Asked if such and such was our address

    She asked my wifes name

Can I have your ID cards?
We gave them to her ( she verified the addresses are the same)

Asked for our original birth certificates

Then she asked for our certified marriage certificate

She asked for the last years tax return
We showed her the tax return along with a copy of the check

Then amist some chit chatter between all of us for 2 mins, she turned around and grabbed a bottle of water to drink, she took out the stamp, asked me for my passport and said "Congratulations". With a nice echoed thump, my passport was stamped with my proof of perminent residence.

Total time 8 mins, if that.

have not filed my AOS yet. .

congratilations!! i have a question regarding on filling out forms (I-485), i came to US on a fiancee visa(K1) on December 15, 2007, then i got married march 8, 2008, it's been a month since i got married and i have not file yet I-485, my question is it okay that i havent file I-485 yet and until when can i submit the application for adjustment of status?
also, since i am married now and i take my husband last name, should i write my husband last name as my last name when i fill out the form(I-485)and other forms (like SSN and EAD)? i am confused because u said the immigrant visa will be stamped in your passport, and my passport is expiring on June 17, 2008 and i still have my single name on there, what should i do? should i renew my passport first and change my passport into my married name?
thanks a lot for your help..

You can apply for the I485 anytime you wish. It all depends on you and how urgent you wish for the process to start and be finished.
In regards to the other questions regarding your lat name, Im not sure. However an attorney can answer your question or better yet, contact your local Consulate Office and they will advice you on your passport issues as well as the renewal. You consulate office is very helpful and can assist with much more than people think.
Will you contact your local consulate and then let me know how things go?

                Same Interview

                Wow Congratulations!

We also were successful in obtaining my husbands permanent residency. We are also in Florida and had almost the exact same interview as you but maybe even a bit more simple, but yes approximately an 8 minute interview... It took less than 4.5 months ( filed dec 28th 2007 approved May 13th, 2008) Our Lawyer said in all his days he has never had such a short quick interview. All i can say to everyone is be prepared with copies of everything and be able to have them organized ina manner that when asked for you can pull them out within seconds. I truely feel blessed that things went so smoothly. Good Luck to ALL!
