  • Can I tavel with a Travel doc and I 485 approved

I have a travel document valid until 2009. I am planning to go to Canada next week. My I 485 just got approved two days ago but haven't received a green card yet.

Is there any problem with me travelling with just the travel document or should I wait for the green card.

    Thanks

It is risky to do that if the approval came while you were present in US as AP is for parolees and you are no longer a parolee. However, many people have done it sucessfully. Depends on how conservative you are.

Avoid the travel if you can.

Agreed. AP and EAD are only to be used while the I-485 is pending. In this case is not pending anymore, so you must wait until your GC arrives... if you can not wait, you can make an infopass appointment and ask for your passport to be stamped with I-551 (which proves you are a permanent resident) this stamp is valid for 1 year and it is good for travel and employment.

        Ok thanks.

How long does it usually take for the green card to arrive in the mail after it has been approved?

Did the status change to card production ordered or is it notice mailed welcoming new resident ? In either case, get the passport stamped if travel is inevitable.

It initially said welcome new resident and now recently it changed to "approval notice sent.

            Thanks.
