Paid time off and family based leave

Hi,

I have around a months time of Paid Time Off (earned vaccation); if I take the earned vaccation and I extend it for another 2 months by applying for familly based vaccation is the employer allowed (by law) to terminate me during that time that is during earned vaccation and familly based vacation?

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
