Change of employer pending I-140 & I-485

Hi!I filed my I-140 & I-485 concurrently last July 2007 and USCIS received my application on the same month.Until now I am still waiting for both my I-140 &485 approval. My question is can I move to another state and work on the same job but with different employer?Even if I don't have yet the I140 &485 approval?When does usually the 180 days starts?Is it by the time of approval or by the time of receipt of application.Thanks for your kind response.

180 days start from the date USCIS got the application. If your I140 is not approved, it is in your best interest to wait for the approval before changing employers and using AC21. Though USCIS has issued memos not to deny 485 based on approvability of the 140, it is still risky to change before the I140 is approved except under unavoidable circumstances like a layoff etc.
