I485: INS requesting document from I140

Hi

I got my I140 approved in Aug. 2000. I applied for
AOS with I485 receipt date Nov. 17, 2000. I called
Nebraska to ask why it is taking so long
and they told me that they are waiting for a document
from my I140 file.

Anyone knows what does it mean ?
Should I worry? hire a lawyer to find out?
(I did I140 (Eb1) and I1485 myself).

Well, the I-485 is a different or separate process, they may grant or deny the AOS at this phase. Probably they are double checking on your info, matching all previous documents with your identity or so. I wouldnt be worried if your applications were filled properly.

I called the IIO to consolidate my documents that they had with them especially the I140. The INS have little knowledge of what documents they already have from you. It is quite normal for them to ask for your I140 to ensure they are consistent documentation from when you filed your initial application for I485.
