Travel while I485 is being processed?

I am a derivative asylee and I filed I-485 in feb 2008 and its pending. I have to travel abroad, I have been reading but can't figure out if i need a travel document or AP. Also, with the appropriate document, would I have any problems re-entering the US? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

Asylees should be careful about trips abroad. If you are visiting a nation close to your nation for which you claimed a political asylum, USCIS has been extra cautious about the green card issuance. Consult an attorney if you want to clarify.

You can not travel outside america without Greencard or any other kind of travel document allowing you to leave the country. If you do that you risk everything. And you can always call the 800 number and ask what exactly you need to do.
