Indian Passport Renewal queries !!

Hi all,
I dnt know this is the right place to ask or not. My husband is from India and he is adjusting from B1/B2 based on marriage with me.
Now just wanted to know if someone can help in the following queries :

a) Renewal of Indian passport has to be applied before how many months of his passport expiery ??

b) This may sound odd .........In the passport renewal form as I saw one has to state his/her marital status and name of spouse.Now we were wondering if we can say that he is single ?? There are some personal family reasons that we dont want my name on his passport. Is this possible ........

I don't know that much about Indian passports but I know this, saying you are single on a passport for personal reasons sounds mighty suspicious

we are trying to show him single in the future passport renewal as there are some acceptance problems with me in his family.Thus we want his new passport to show single too.

so can we write single in the passport marital status form ?? as i read we have give his temporary GC / EAD photocopy with that .
