Does any one know how to get a copy of I-140 petition letter from INS?

My I-140 was approved but lawyer refuses to give me copy of petition letter. I really need it for I-485 application.

Please give me some advice. Thank you

Go to the INS website to figure out which Service Center of the INs your petition was filed through. If you have a copy of the I-140 approval, the address should be given at the bottom.

Write a letter to the INS service center asking for a copy of your file. They're required to give it to you, but they may take a long time doing it. Expect that it will take at least a couple of months, depending on the service center.

If you can get by without the I-140 supporting documents, then it might be best and fastest to do so.

I hope everybody learns a lesson by this! All foreign nationals, try to get and keep copies of everything your lawyer does for you! Make a folder for your immigration papers today, and put everything in it!

By the way, why won't your lawyer give you your file copy?
