Hi there... Just a quick question.
I have had a boyfriend in NY for a couple years now. Customs and border control are aware of my frequent visits to NY to visit my boyfriend. We recently became engaged and we plan on marrying in the next month. We do not have a lawyer, but I do not plan on leaving the country anytime soon. My questions are...
If we get married in a month... do I have to file papers for "change of status" immediately? Will I be penalized if I take my time filing any sort of papers? And once I am married, do they still look at it as me "overstaying my welcome?"
I'm really in no rush to leave the US and "get back in" so to speak... nor am I looking for a work visa.
I can't really find out the pertinent information online so any help would be great!
