Can you add your spouse to I-485

Hi,
Is it possible to add your spouse to I-485 at a later date? My spouse does not have papers ready and I want to go ahead and send my papers in. My I-140 is approved.
If I can, does it delay the processing time?

Is your PD current? The spouse can be added only if the PD is current at a later date. You will also risk the status of spouse in case your GC gets approved before your PD becomes current.
