I applied I485 during last week of september but havent gotten the receipt yet. But, I got the finger print appointment letter. can this happen before USCIS send the receipt?

Under what category did you file your I-485? I have sent mine in mid october but havent heard anything yet.

Do not despair, we arrived with my husband (mexican) and his k1 visa on May 10, 2008. We sent our paperwork on June 9 and we almost immediately got fingerprint notices (for him, I am a US Citizen). Then about a month later we got a notice saying the I-486 and I-765 were received on June 16, 2008. We went to the fingerprint appointment, and were really worrying, but on Friday we got our letter for the I-485 interview in December. It turns out that our interview is scheduled exactly six months to the day of I-485 receipt. If you have doubts, you can always call Imm Services. I hear it normally takes 6 months, and that sometimes you have to go to an interview and sometimes they just mail you an approval. We were fiance/marriage based, so we have to go prove we are actually bona-fide married.
