Does having a lawyer make a difference?

Good day to all!!

Last week I filed my I-485, the medical and the I-865, I-130, I-765 and I-131 concurrently. My application is based on marriage and I believe that I understood all of the documents and instructions and so my husband and I chose not to add the extra expense of a lawyer. However my mother and grandmother urged me to use a lawyer because they believe that otherwise immigration would "give you a run for your money". I don't believe this to be the case but their words are bothering my peace of mind nonetheless and to the point where I felt I just had to ask -- Does having a lawyer really make much of a difference? If so how or in what ways?

I know what's done is done but I really am concerned...

I thought that by employing an attorney, it would help me and my wife (USC) when we filed I130, I485, I765 and I131.
In hindsight, this has been an additional cost. I would be in the same situation now of waiting if I had filed myself.
Filed in october, receipt received in november, biometric done december and still to date nothing from USCIS.
I have requested attorney to follow up and put pressure on USCIS as my EAD is outside processing timeframe, he can't get any definate answers from USCIS about release date.
Do not get me wrong the attorney is doing his job but the USCIS just seem very relaxed and unprofessional. The whole immigration process needs a serious overhaul.
