Joint Account for Green Card Interview

Dear All,

I got married with my US citizen wife on Feb 2009 and filed application to USCIS on March 7th, my question is my visiting visa has been expiered already and i do not have SSN, how can i open the joint account with my wife? if i open the joint account after i got the EAD, is it too late? because i know now interview appointment is only 1~2 months after you received your EAD, if like that, there is nothing on my joint account statement.

Have her open the account, then she can go back and put your name as an authorizeduser. This will give you a debit card and put your name on the checks.

thanks for your reply, but if i want to pay electricity bill, telephone bill etc, this way can not show that i pay these bills by using our own account or joint account.

yes you will have your own card and your name on checks too! It is what most people who do not have an ssn or messed up credit do also check with bank of america in certain parts of the country you do not need an ssn. Wal-mart will let you open an bank account do not do it because it is a rip off with high fees. Chevy chase bank will let your wife open an account then go back a month later and add you as an authorized user.

is it really required to have a joint account?

because my husbands bank is in wamu and is requiring ssn. are there any banks that doesnt require ssn to open an account?

is a joint account really needed for an interview? cant the health card suffice and having a baby on the way cant prove it? please advise. thanks

yes a joint account is required. Just because you are preganagt does not mean it is his child. Not to be rude however maybe you are helping a friend / distance couosin by marrying him , however since you are are not really married you became preganat by someone else.
