  • Greeen Card-Marriage-Initial Interview Experience

I wanted to give the forum an update on my case and share some information that might be helpful for someone out there. While I have asked the forum for advice in the past and have rarely gotten responses I have chosen not to blame some of you that might benefit by some of the information I will share with you here.
I had my 1st interview for a conditional Green Card (CR6) based on marriage at the Miami, Fl office on Monday May 18th. The interview was scheduled for 10:00am and my wife and I arrived at 9:30. The room was packed...absolutely packed...250+ people. We had our name called at 12:35pm. There were folks there since 7:00am waiting for a 8:00am appointment that still had not been called yet. At any rate, we went in for the interview. We had a ton of stuff with us 2 albums of pictures 80+ pictures, (2) 2-inch binders with shared documents, tax returns, banks statements, holiday cards, credit card statements, insurance paperwork, three large folders with wedding cards, wedding registry registration, christmas cards, plane tickets from holiday travels, future travel plans, etc.
We were placed under oath immediately when entering the office and we were asked a number of questions from the forms that were already submitted. Our address, birthday date and phone number. She double checked all the forms-fingerprints, medical exam. She asked for updated pay stubs from my financial sponsor and checked original birth certificates.
The interviewer was very professional and friendly. She kept apologizing for the long wait. The actual interview was extremely painless--it took about 15 minutes. He left at one point to have as he said "my case signed off on by a supervisor". After he returned (about a minute later) he said my case was approved and that he would stamp my passport with the Temp I-551 in case I needed to travel. He stamped my passport (really simple stamp--in red ink) and said that I should received my conditional green card in about 2-6 weeks. I handed him my EAD card and AP but he insisted that I hang on to it and just shred it when I received the Green Card in the mail.

He never asked one question-except to request a required piece of documentation. While he was away getting my case signed off on he asked that we set aside about 6 pictures and about 4 separate documents that showed joint ownership. I actually gave him about 8 pictures and about 6-7 documents but he insisted that it was not necessary as he "just wanted to include a few things--no big deal".
At any rate with that said I suppose the next step is receiving the actual card. As in indicated I got the temp I-551 stamp in my passport the same time and it was actually offered up by him without me having to ask.
Of all the unpleasant experiences I had had at the foreign embassy or even at the point of entry--this experience was actually pleasant. He was very professional and not mean at all. I wish you all had the kind of experience I had. Apart from the obvious 2 1/2 hour wait the actual interview was truly painless.
Good Luck to each of you.

Another update--just checked my email. Received the "Card Production Ordered" email...approximately 24 hours after my interview. This email basely states that my green card was ordered and I should allow 30 days for it to get to my mail box.
Again, I will post updates on this when I actually receive it so that the rest of you can know approximately how long it might take you.

Hi, we had interview on May 11th, and in my case, the IO took my I-94 and told us that the GC would be sent to me in 3-4 weeks (roughly 30 days). I think the IO needed to confirm it with his/her supervisor if it's alright to approve your case based on having a copy of your BC. Within 30 days, they could either send you an RFE (to request the original BC) or send you the Welcome Letter.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am sure a lot of people are relying on this information. From my experience, it takes less than a week between CARD PRODUCTION ORDERED and getting it in the mail. So, seems like you should have it by now.

Thanks, jain_pk. I know how stressful it is to be in a situation wondering if my AOS will ever be approved. Now that I'm over it (at least for the time being), I thought my story could be of some sort of reference for fellow beneficiaries who are looking forward to their interview with "fear and trembling". Btw, I'm still waiting for my GC to arrive in the mail. I got the welcome letter though. For now, I can shift my focus to finding a job. Congrats to you, too and for all others who got their GC already. All the best for those who will have their interview soon. As I wrote in my previous post, come prepared to the interview and have your documents neatly organized. If your marriage is legit, there's no need to worry. It won't help.

To my fellow posters...thanks for all the warm wishes...again I only posted what I did and shared my experiences to encourage some of you that have an upcoming interview soon. As my fellow poster "believer" stated if your marriage is real--there is no need to worry, however if you are into shady business in order to get your GC--you should worry because these folks will sniff you!

To answer a previous poster--yes they took my I-94 card. I had a week of panic leadingup to the interview as I seem to have misplaced my I-94 card so after tearing my house apart and finding it (thanks GOD) I was able to rest easier. If you are planning to leave--I do not recommend it until after you get your response from USCIS. You will either get a RFE or the card in the mail--just keep checking. Also, my case was never updated online either before my interview--I received an email about 5 hours after my interview that my card was ordered and my case was approved.
                Blessing Folks!

Just a quick update to let you know that I received my Green Card today. June 29th 2009.
With the delays in the production of the cards it took almost 6 weeks from my interview to receive my card.
A quick note too---the GC is really hi tech these days---they are totally putting the folks who try to produce **** cards out of business. This new card looks like it would be virtually impossible to ****.
At any rate--I wanted to share an update on my case and let you all know time wise where my case is at having received my card.

                  Blessing!
