  • Permanent Resident Card Production Delays

Just thought I would post this note from the USCIS website incase some of you have not seen it. Some of you might be impacted by this (I think I might be too)--just sharing for the good of the group.

See below as copied from the USCIS website:

    ____________________________________________________________ _____

    Permanent Resident Card Production Delays

USCIS is announcing that applicants may experience up to an eight week delay in the delivery of their permanent resident card while we are in the process of upgrading our card production equipment. USCIS Field Offices will be issuing temporary evidence of permanent residence in the form of an I-551 stamp to applicants approved for permanent residence at the time of their interview. You will need to take your passport to your appointment. If you do not have a passport, you must bring a passport style photo and government issued photo identification to receive temporary evidence of permanent residence.

If the application is approved subsequent to your interview or by a Service Center or the National Benefit Center, the applicant should bring the above documents to an INFOPASS appointment to be issued temporary evidence of permanent residence in the form of an I-551 stamp.

485 approved but no plastic green card yet.

    Hi all,
After 485 is approved and biometrics are complete, Does every one receive "Card ordered for printing" email from CRIS or mail from USCIS? Its been 6 months my 485 is approved, In last 1.5 months they called me twice for finger printing - first time - 10 fingers print and second time index finger and electronic signature.

Its already been over a week since i had second session of finger printing in USCIS office - No card and no letter
of proof stating they ordered production/printing for my green card.

DO you think its unusual to not receieve letter of "Card ordered for printing?"

After 8 years of wait - My 485 was approved on dec -11-2008 and struggling to get plastic card since 6 months already. :crying:

Now with the following anouncement from USCIS - announced on May 29, 09 - i know there wil be delay but Has any one completed biometrics before the delay was announced and have recieved plastic card in 2-3 weeks?

Do you guys recommend i should visit local office once again and have them inquire why didn't i receive email/mail about " Card ordered for printing"?

I suggest you make an inquiry by calling 1-800-375-5283. Dial 123 as soon as you hear the recorded message. I have done this 3x in the past, and so far, the customer service optrs are very professional and helpful in answering my questions. All the best!

Green card printing delays and processes

            Hi All,
I had received welcome notice in mail in Dec 2008 itself wiithin 3 days of 485 case approval. Online case status was also changed correctly. But when i didn't receive card until March 09 - upon inquiry i was called for finger printing. Ever since then they messed up the online status. From '485 approved' the status went back to ' 485 is still in progress'.

Upon further inquiry to 1-800 number and visits to USCIS local office i was called for one more finger print notice within 40 days. 2nd finger print was just for index finger this was in 1st week of May. I was told that i should receive the card in 2 weeks or so. But no news.

I have given up on following up with them any more. Keep extending 551 stamp is the only resolution. 1-800 number services rep told me not to call them again and local office told me to stop taking infopass unless i need to renew the 551 stamp.

Learnt that the various local offices and departments are not in sync, IT application systems needs upgrades, processes needs enhancements best way is to rebuild the entire system. Lots of job opportunities

Will update this thread when the golden day rises when i will see the printed card. Good luck to you all.
