My project might end in couple of months and no visibility for next project due to economy. My I-485 is pending since aug 2007 and just responsed on RFE for employement varification for me and birth cetificate for my wife and USCIS recd them. Now my question is -
I have got an good job offer from my home country but I would like to keep my option open for US. Can I go for a long leave and my 485 will be continued? As I heard that GC is for future employer, will that be OK if I return at the time of my priority date is current (Apr 2002- EB3)?

also to add, on response of my RFE for employement, as my I140 and 485 was filed in NJ and I am in CA now days, my employer write a letter that I will be employed in NJ at the time of I will get GC. it shows that I can take a break before PD is current, is that so?

If you want to do that, you should consult an attorney to change your application from AOS to CP. Once your PD is current, the consulate in your home country would call you for an interview and give you a GC.

AOS is for people residing in the US.
