passport expiry

I have noticed NOW that my passport was expired 10 months ago . It was issued in Mar 1991 and expired on 18 Mar 2001. Now I am ready to file for my I-485 as I have got the I-140 approved. Do I have to wait for my new passport to arrive from the Consulate general of india, san francisco (I live in SF Bay Area) or can I file for I-485 with my old passport copy which was already expired on 3-18-2001. My problem Is when I went for INS Medical checkup I unknowingly gave the old passport number.

Need your expert advise.

Need both. Since you have to attach copies of all pages of passports. Make some copies for future also.
