I-94 original or copy

From the instructions, it appears that the original (NOT a copy) I-94 needs to be submitted with the I-865. Is this correct? Can I submit a copy instead? I am concerned about relinquishing the original given that a replacement is so expensive. Also, the instructions are clear that originals cannot be returned.

I am concerned about submitting the original because I may need an original I-94 to apply for a social security card.

I appreciate any clarification anyone can offer on this matter.

Copy will be fine. A color one is better. If they need the original, they will ask for it in a RFE and you can send it in at that time.
