  • Waiting for I-485 approval since 730 days.

    I filed my I-485 760 days back at TSC(Nov 99). I got the receipt for it 730 days back(Dec 99).
I got my medical and finger printing done 650 days back.
Ever since I made 3 calls to INS. Every time I was asked to wait for another month.
I am renewing my EAD for the third time.
I am still waiting for the GC.
Could some one reply for this message who is facing similar situation ?
What could be done to find out the reason for the delay?
    Is this normal ?
I have taken off for 3 days just to get INS officers on phone. I was unable to get the line.

If your application is employment-based, and you have been waiting that long, there is something WRONG. Do you have an attorney who is helping you? They usually have special ways to contact the INS that you don't have access to (such as unpublished fax numbers and phone numbers). Ask that your attorney help you. He should have already!

Next, find out who your congressman is. Write a letter to him. You might have to do some searching, but it will bring results! Look for instructions for "congressional inquiries" in different immigration websites, if this one doesn't have instructions.

The people that you wait all day to get through to on the phone know nothing about your case. It's a waste of time. They can only see what's on their computer system, and can't actually look in your file or anything. If you don't have an attorney helping you, see if you can talk to those people just to get a fax number to send your own inquiry to. Otherwise send a letter to the TSC, same address as the one your I-485 was sent to (see INS website, "service centers/where to file"). Send one letter every ten days. Be sure to enclose a copy of your receipt notice.

    Good luck.

      Thanks for the advice

Thanks for the advice. Yes, it is an employment based application. My attorney is not of much help. I am taking your advice to do the necessary. Thanks a lot.

        Re: Thanks for the advice

I'm not sure if I can give the name of a website on this board, but a good place to get instructions on how to make an inquiry with your congressperson is:

        dalewarner.com

It's not a commercial site, just the site of a really good lawyer in California, so I assume it's okay. Of course, preface with www.

I like to read this board often, so let me know how it goes.
