Hello everyone I've been watching this site ever since I was getting ready for my interview. This site has helped me out a lot. I am writing my interview experience and hopefully it will help some of you out.
My husband and I got married on April 25th 2009 we applied for our I-485 right away. We hired a lawyer to help us out. My husband is a USC and I was in the States with my F1-Visa. My F1-Visa got terminated due to my Attendance Failure. My husband had a job back then but he did not have a 2008 tax return and he wasn't making enough which meant he couldn't be my sponsor. So we had to ask his parents to be our co-sponsors and they barely met the requirement. My husband got laid off on September. Our lawyer wasn't so confident about this case.. anyways we decided we didn't have much chance and turned in everything we got.
We got married in the courtroom. We only had two friends attending it. My best friend and his brother.
We got the interview notice on Dec 9th and got very excited
( I got approved on my EAD card but never got it. I told my lawyer I didn't get the card. He said it didn't matter if I got the Greencard I could use my Greencard instead of the EAD card. )
anyways
From then on I started getting very nervous and wanted everything to be perfect.
These are the documents I took with me to the interview
Joint bank Checking/Savings account with bank of America
Joint bank savings from MB bank
Joint Lease
Joint internet bill
Joint blockbuster
Pictures ( I made a album from shutterfly.com)
Emails we sent back and forth (chats)
Cards
We were only married for 9 month and didn't have a lot of joint accounts together. anyways yesterday on the 19th we had our interview in Chicago, Il we went there around 7:05. There were people already there. We checked in and handed in our interview notice they asked if we have a lawyer coming so we said yes and they wrote the time down which was 7:19 we waited for our lawyer and he came by 7:45 so we went back to hand in our notice they gave us a pager. We waited till 8:00 or pager rang so we went in to a room. Our OC was very nice. He joked about blackberries and as soon as we went in the room he turned business.. He was young. He swore us and we sat down.
As soon as we sat down he wanted our passport and both of our ID'S and my husbands birth certificate. My husband didn't have a birth certificate he said it was fine.
He asked us
How did you first meet? -Church
Where is this Church?
Whats the church name?
He asked my Husband
Whats your name and birth?
Whats your wife's name and birth?
He then asked me some questions for the FBI background check
such as; have I been arrested? did I vote? Prostitution? terrorist?
I said no to all this. He made my sign and asked my husband to sign if we wanted to proceed. and my husband did.
He also asked us why our ids aren't updated with our current address. We told him we move to a different place every year.
He also asked if we have any joint accounts so we gave him all the joint accounts we had with our album made on shutterfly. He said he didn't want to take the album b.c it looked expensive. so he went out to get a copy of it.
He then came back and told us that was it. He didn't say if I got the GC or not. He said I would be hearing from them in 90 days or so. He took my I-94 card on my passport. He was explaining what the next steps should be IF i get my green card.
We said thank you and left... We thought the interview went very smoothly. He was very friendly and asked us simple questions.
My husband was 100 percent sure I got the GC but I didn't know what to expect.
Today in the morning I got a call from my lawyer saying I will be getting my GC in 30 days or so. I checked my status and it says
"we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you"
It has been long and a rough but I am glad its over!
I hope it all goes well for all of you!
