Hi, I just wanted to write my story and if I'm eligible to Adjust my status.
I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is a USC. We meet eachother Dec. 2008 and met for the first time Jan. 09. Anyways I came here to the US for an extended visit Sept. 30 at that time my now husband was my boyfriend. The day after I arrived he proposed to me. We spoke to a few people and they suggested to apply for a K1 visa which we did (during this time I was in the U.S) So we submitted the paperwork then I spoke to an immigration lawyer in the U.S and he said that I was filed the wrong paperwork since I was with him in the States. So we cancelled the K1 not even a month after we submitted it. The lawyer said to get married and file for AOS, which we did, we got married on Jan. 2/10. I will be filing for AOS in the begin of March after I get my medical done.
The things that I'm concerned about are: When I was 16 I was arrested for **** under 30 grams but the charge was withdrawn and I have a DUI but I was found NOT quilty. Do you think this will have a big effect on my petition???
Also did I do everything legally?? do I have a good shot at adjusting??
I had no intentions of getting married on this visit and I actually thought I was going to have to return to Canada for the K1 visa interview.
