  • How helpful are USCIS agents?

So Im probably going to call USCIS to speak with an agent tomorrow because my case hasn't been updated for almost 4 months now (I-485 and I-765 stuck at fingerprint completed, I-150 at USCIS received respond for RFIE). I myself have one single experience with USCIS agent and it wasn't very informative and the agent pretty much just read the online update out loud to me. The only new information I got was my case wasn't on hold.
So, those who have spoken with USCIS agents on the phone, generally, how helpful were they to you? Did your conversations make a difference?

In your case there is probably little info on your case. 5 months is not to long to wait by their standards. My online cases never got updated during the time I waited for my EAD or AP. Just one day it appeared in the mail. went real quick after that though. Total time was 7 months.

The USCIS officers I first spoke to have been polite- but not really helpful. They only have access to the exact same information that you can see for yourself on the USCIS website- or by using the Ask Emma feature. You need to ask to be transferred to a Level 2 officer, who has access to more detailed information about your case. Those officers have been polite and helpful for me.

That's depend on your lucky, some can answer you helpful, some that they answer in generally. Anyway, talk to tier 2 or higher like supervisor. better, but still wait long time. Another option, sending mail to USCIS center that process your case is the way helpful too, because they are the one directly process your case

I called twice to inquire about the receipt of my package and both times they were extremely polite, understanding, and kind. I felt they did their best with the information they had. I would check your month's filers thread to see if your dates match up with others that filed around the same time. I feel like you're still within the window of normal processing times but doesn't hurt to call USCIS and see if there's any additional info. Good luck! I know how stressful it is to wait.

I had 2 very different experiences: the first time I called the L1 person seemed really annoyed by the fact that I asked to speak to a L2 person. Eventually, she put me through, but the L2 officer basically hung up the phone after a couple of minutes ... 2nd time I called about 3 weeks ago to put a case inquiry request I stayed on the phone with this very friendly lady, she was super nice, we were joking, etc. so very very pleased! I guess it really depends ... like with any other customer service

I called a couple of times and they were very nice. But L1 officers normally can't really do much. I haven't spoke to L2 officers. Let us know how do you do!

Bummer! I'm hesitant to reach out. I think I will wait until my case is outside of normal processing time.
The time is killing me! lol
