  • Case was transferred and has jurisdiction multiple times?

    Hi all,

I know this topic has been brought up and discussed in the past to certain degrees. I've also seen a couple of topics pop up recently on the impact of case transfers and interview dates.

I wanted to share my recent experience and see if anyone's gone through something similar? I'm in the middle of the I-485 sponsored through employment (EB2). Recently I had my I-140 approved (Jan 2019) and that's when I got the following updates on my USCIS profile:

Case processing: Nebraska Service Center (NSC)
    Residence: Chicago
    • Feb 21: Case transferred to another office (received formal notice letter from NSC that my case was transferred to National Benefits Center (NBC), Lee's Summit MO --> I believe this is standard practice before application gets forwarded to local office for interview schedule)
    • Feb 21: Case received at my local office (I'm thinking great!)
    • Feb 22: Case was transferred and a new office has jurisdiction (This seemed odd. I called the USCIS number and the automatic reply stated that the application had been forwarded to the Nebraska Service Center on Feb 22?? Never received a formal notice letter)
    • Feb 23: Case was transferred and a new office has jurisdiction (exact same update as on Feb 22, and this event was not even mentioned/recorded when I called the USCIS number. Never received a formal notice letter)

Has anyone experienced or seen something similar? Not only is it very odd that there were so many case transfers, but it's even more odd that the notifications were updated over consecutive days including Feb 23 (a Saturday). At this point I'm thinking that either the NBC sent back the application to Nebraska for some reason, or the Chicago office sent it back to NBC or NSC?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, Just to pitch in. I have similar updates to yours, basically on one day I got a notice that case transferred to NBC and the next day I got another update that case was transferred to my local office, however - the phone line said that the latest action was case transfer to NBC. The only mail notice i have received was regarding transfer to NBC - so I do believe where my case is. it just would not make sense for case to be transferred to local office withing 1 day from receipt in NBC - and multiple notices is just a glitch. However it is interesting that in your case it is mentioned that it went back to Nebraska.

bobnetcat, appreciate the quick response. Good to know that others have seen similar updates on their end. Taking action within 1 day of receiving the application does sound strange so it could be related to some sort of bug or incorrect update online.

To your point the only odd thing about my case is the Feb 22 transfer to Nebraska that happened immediately after I received the formal notification that my case had been transferred to the NBC. I can only assume that either the update is incorrect since it happened literally 1 day after being sent to NBC, or there was something glaringly wrong with the application where it was immediately sent back. Not sure if I'll be receiving an RFE later or what the deal is but I can only hope this is miscommunication rather than a real problem.

In your case I would believe only those updates that were received by mail. Mail correspondence is pretty much the only official update we are getting in this process.

My online updates are really weird as well. For instance I got 4 notifications of fingerprint review being completed and all other updates are duplicated as well. Also on few occasions I have noticed dates shifting randomly, so I don't think there should be any reasons for a worry.

          Thanks bobnecat.

As an update, I did get an RFE yesterday (Apr 8). Turns out that the application did get sent back to Nebraska as mentioned over the phone when I called USCIS. Incredibly disappointing to say the least, but I'll provide more updates when I get the notice. I don't know what the information requested is yet.

          Cheers.

            Hi Acu136,

We have the same experience here, but maybe worse. Our I-485 (EB2) filing date is 07/25/2017, PD 03/16/2017. We got our interview scheduled for 07/03/2018 in Detroit, but then we received Interview cancellation notice on 06/19/2018. and our status changed to New office has jurisdiction and has been transferred. When we call USCIS, the auto answer would say our case is at Nebraska, we actually could get hold of an immigration officer this summer, they told us our case is at NBC and never been to our local office and under background check. It has been 16 months since cancellation. Very frustrating, any updates for you?

Hello, what was the timeline between the final transfer and interview? If I may ask.
