  • 2nd Interview for 2nd go around -- Questions about marriage?

    Hello,

Before i go on, please note, our case is a very very complicated one involving some bad judgement calls on the part of the immigrant from his past (25 years back) + (technically illegal acts but nothing out of this world).

We'd first filed for the i-485 in early 2015 with an interview in early 2016 which got denied. That first one got us a major grilling by the officer.

We then filed anew (with a different lawyer) soon after in Spring 2016 with 1st interview in Jan 2017. Believe it or not, we got the same officer. The questions she asked this time were very simple and rudimentary. Although, I'll admit we made some major improvement in the documentation submitted. The first lawyer was that bad.

We'd waited over 2 years to finally be alerted of an interview for today. Finally, a different officer. Very nice, sweet fella.
What'd they ask? Questions about our marriage and testing to see how well we knew each other. Very little else.
Interestingly, important photos showing our 25 year history together were missing. We'd submitted them in 2017 but they were nowhere to be found. Funniest thing (or craziest?) is when the officer asked if we had any photos on us. Errrr, not our thing - Carrying around photos that is.

    Anyhow, what'd you think? Promising?

Uscis places burden on you to prove a Bonafide marriage. If you've been on this forums you'll see most folks have a binder full of original documents they submitted initially which they take for interview. They also have additional documents such as pictures and tax documents to support their case.

Let's hope the office accepts your submission and approves. Second best you get a RFE and then you submit additional docs and pictures.

Thanks for your input bhunti. Honestly, it was the very last thing any of us was expecting. We figured they'd grill us further about the extreme hardship or the past errors of my spouse, OR, just ask for the updated docs and send us on our way. Not this, after having gotten married 5 years ago today.

BTW, I see now what you're saying. Bad on our latest lawyer for not prepping us well enough. If told to do so then we'd have taken everything minus the sink.
