  • RFE after green card interview

We have been married over 2 years and had a marriage-based green card interview yesterday, April 11th, 2019. We have submitted following documents as proof of relationship:

1- Last two years joint tax returns
2- Last statement of common checking account
3- Our current lease with both of our names
4- 30 pictures including mostly international travels with family and friends, wedding pics.
5- Common health and dental insurance

The IO told us that because we're married longer than two years, I will get a 10 year green card and therefore he needs more proof. He asked for the very first statement of our checking account 2 years ago, which I didn't have with me. I honestly didn't know I needed that., as I brought only the most current one. So he gave us an RFE for more proof. We left the USCIS office went back home, printed out our first statement and found our previous lease with our names as well. We brought it back to USCIS the same day with the RFE notice. We weren't allowed to see the IO again so we left it at the front desk. They told us that they'll let us know the result.

I don't know if any of you ever had a situation like this but I wanted to put this information out there so people can learn about it, hopefully before their interview. I will update this post as soon as my status changes.

    Good luck everybody!

Don't they have your marriage certificate? Did you take it to the interview?

My guess is that you can go over-prepared but don't give everything to the officer to look at, just wait until they ask for something specific and then you can give them the original and a copy if you want.

I'm curious about the 30 pictures requested, did this number of photos sound random to you?
What were the original documents did you present during your interview?
              Would appreciate your reply.

It was in Fairfax, VA office. The 30 pictures weren't requested. You can bring as many as you want or not bring at all. It'll just help your case. Try to pick ones with other people in it so the IO can ask about them, which will give you the chance to tell stories of your past.

Priorty date was August 20th 2017. The originals were:
1- Everything I used to submit with I-485 (IDs, birth certificates, marriage certificate etc)
2- Documents that update some stuff such as our address, current employer etc.
                  3- most recent tax return.
4- most recent paystubs, w2s and work letter from employer.
5- the documents listed in my first post.

                  Hope this helps.

I agree with the poster. You should be over prepared and wait until they ask for it.

We were asked for further proof at our GC Interview as well; we needed to send a copy of the police report for an altercation my husband had a while back. We had our interview sometime in December of 2018 and he was approved for his 10 year GC on our 2 year anniversary date in January of 2019.

We took pictures, car insurance, bank statements and a couple of other documents but I don't clearly recall -- she asked us how we met, why we married so soon (within 3 months of meeting), where we went to our honeymoon, does he know my family & vice-versa. Overall, I'm sure if we hadn't needed to get that police report, we would've gotten approved on the spot.

                    Best of luck to everyone.

That's some relief. My case status is still "interview scheduled". Hope I can get the card soon. Congratulations to you and your husband.

My waiting info wouldn't help you as I moved from another city to DC which made the process very long as they forgot to transfer my files for 7 months.

Update: My case was approved on April 25th and I received the notice today, April 29th. My status is still "interview scheduled" in uscis mycasestatus.

Notice says the card will be delivered in 3 weeks. Thank you everyone who provides their process here.
