  • Chicago GC interview

    Hi all,

I'm Ameya. For my green card through marriage application, I applied for the following forms together on October 23rd, 2018 (I got the receipt notice for all for that date)
I-130, I -131, I-485 and I-765 c(9) at the National Benefits Center. We live in Chicago.

We have our interview scheduled on the 16th of May 2019. If anyone has done their interview already could you please consider sharing your experiences on:
    • How's the interview?
    • How long does it last?
    • What questions did the officer asked?
    • Do they take your and your spouse's interview together or separate?
    I appreciate your responses.

    Thank you.

    Ameya

      We had our interview yesterday.

The office was nice and asked about our story. She asked us to submit documents and she said, she'll review it later and let us know in 2-3 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Why didn't you need form I-130A, "Supplemental Information for Spouse Beneficiary," or form I-864, "Affidavit of Financial Support"? I'm working on my wife's green card by marriage application, and it sounded like these would be required too.

              Hi,

Sorry about the delay. I didn't get any notifications about your comments.

absolut. - We were not asked to submit any additional documents. The officer did not go through our documents during our interview and that's why did not make a decision on the spot.

demodemo - Here is our timeline.

We applied with forms I-130, I -131, I-485 and I-765 c(9) at the National Benefits Center.

              Application/Receipt date: 10/23/2018
              Biometrics done: 11/21/2018
              Fingerprint review complete: 12/05/2018
EAD approved and new card processed: 03/12/2019
              Card shipped: 03/14/2019
              Card received: 03/18/2019

              Interview scheduled on :05/16/2019
              Case approved: 5/23/2019
              Card mailed: 5/24/2019

We're waiting for the card now.

uzr691 - I-130A is not a 'required' form. You can use this form as an additional form for providing more information. For I-864 is to be used only if the petitioner (person applying with the form form I-130) is either not working or has an income that is below the minimum requirement of the state they reside in. In your case, from what you've described, you are the petitioner, so if your income is above that minimum requirement for your state, then I-864 is not required.

              Thanks.

Did you file your forms by yourself? Your advice is totally wrong. I-130A is a required supplemental information for immediate relatives(spouse beneficiary) and a beneficiary could get an Rfie because of that. It’s stated here. https://www.uscis.gov/system/files_f...pdf?download=1
Second, I-864 is absolutely needed regardless of whatsoever, to prove that the applicant has a sponsor and would not be a burden on the U.S government. Please don’t post wrong information.

love21_ we filed with the lawyer. And I never claimed my information was 'THE source' that everyone needs to follow. A smart person would always first contact the lawyer and also get info online. I was wrong in posting information and I should have checked the form names I submitted before posting it. It was my bad.

BUT there is a descent way of letting a person know. I saw some of your other responses and maybe you can use some writing practice WITHOUT BEING RUDE. If you would have read the thread you'd have understood my intention was never to post wrong information. It was a simple mistake. But obviously you can't get it. Anyhow good luck getting your gc and being a nice person.

uzr691 My apologies. I did not check which forms we had submitted and wrote my reply. You are required to file the form I-130A and I-864. The USCIS website gives you this info:https://www.uscis.gov/greencard/imme...ive-us-citizen

Also, if you use the website https://www.avvo.com/, you can ask your questions there and you'll get answers from the lawyers. I personally feel that is a better way to get most accurate answers if you're filling yourself.

Once again, I didn't mean to mislead you, I apologize for my hasty response. Good luck with your application.
