EAD renewal taking way too long. Pending since August 2018. What are my options?

As the post says, I mailed my EAD application and USCIS had received it on August 16, 2018. My EAD is based on AOS (spouse is a USC); however, my AOS I-485 itself has been pending since December of 2015. Both EAD and AOS applications are obviously outside the normal processing time guidelines. The only answer I have been given as to why it is taking so long is that my background check is pending. I am currently considering submitting a request with the ombudsman office and filling out form 7001. My legal counselor suggests that I also file with the local congressman office. Based on what I read on this forum, filing a complaint with the local congressman office is equivalent to filing a regular service request. I have done several of those myself with no luck. I am honestly frustrated as to what my options are at the moment. If anyone could offer some insights, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

It seems like the bigger problem is the I-485. You submitted it in 2015? Still no interview? At this point you have nothing to lose by involving your congressman.

For our own case, (PD 10/2017), our attorney has escalated as far as the director of the Chicago office since it appears our file has just been languishing there for months.
