  • How long does it typically take to prepare an AoS application

    Hello All

I had a question wondering if you could please shed some light, i have an approved i140 that has a priority date which is current, the law firm that my company works with has been preparing the filing for my AoS (485) for the last 6 weeks and are very slow in responding, someone told me that once pd is current I can change my lawyer to one of my choice , is that true ? How much time does a typical AoS filing preparation take ? If I change my attorney at this point will it adversely impact my case ?

    thanks

Oh, you can fill it in one day!
at this point I assume you have your supporting documents, photos.
you know, we had a lawyer, super unethical and slow
to answer, we gave her lots of money and she didnt do anything, my i94 was about to expire so after >4 months waiting for her to submit forms, we decide to do it on our own, I made research, we paid again but that was on September and im waiting for my GC this week according to USCIS/USPS .
so if your case is a simple one like mine (no out of status, no criminal record, in my case immediate relative, etc) you might not even need a lawyer.

You don't need a lawyer at this stage. We did everything ourselves. Make sure you are very clear about who is filling out your J supplement and whether you will be charged hourly for anything. Many lawyers aren't transparent about payments and are often slow.
