  • Had our interview

    Hi all,

We finally had our interview, our initial filing was in December 2017.
I'm from The Netherlands and was in the US since 2015 on L1-B visa, my wife is an American citizen. We met in 2012.
I'm adjusting status with all the concurrent filing, 131, 765, 130, 485, etc..

Had our interview today at the Norfolk/Virginia Beach office in Virginia.
It was scheduled at 10:15 AM and we started at 10:15. It took 30 minutes. They're recommending us for approval

    Questions we got:
    How did we meet?
    What is our history?
We talked about the Netherlands for a bit, my wife lived there with me before we moved to the US and turns out the USCIS Officer went to university in Amsterdam.
She was doing her best to pronounce everything correct and did a good job.
Asked us to tell her about the wedding?
She looked at the wedding album.
She asked if I had additional information to add that I hadn't filed before. See the attached word document, I handed a stack of paperwork with a TOC in front of it.
She took it and put it in the file. This was all updated paperwork like lease/paystubs/tax returns etc since our initial filing.
Asked me my name, dob, place of birth, parents full names plus dob/pob
Asked me for my wife her name, dob, and pob
    Asked our wedding date
She asked a bunch of the yes/no questions
She then asked my wife her name, dob, pob
    Her parents' names, dob, pob
She then asked about my full name, dob, pob
Asked her our wedding date again, this was literally 2 minutes after she asked me and we were sitting next to each other.
Finally, she told me that she was going to recommend me for approval and asked if we had any questions.
I asked if she could maybe postpone the approval to after May 31st which would be our 2 year wedding anniversary but she said she couldn't guarantee that.
At this point, I'll just be happy not to travel on AP anymore.

I've included a link to a word file; It is the TOC/Letter that I used when we initially filed, the second part of the letter contains the TOC of additional documents that we brought for the interview.
Feel free to modify the word doc and use it as you see fit!

        Hi

Why was there so much delay after the status text ready for interview to be scheduled to the date of your interview??

is it anything related to your change of address or rescheduling the interview date.

        Regards
        A1k

When I changed the address (i actually submitted this a few days before i got the interview notice) they cancelled that interview.
They scheduled a new one pretty quick after that at my new field office but we couldnt make that interview and asked them to reschedule it.
It took 8 months for a new interview date, at this point i was like whatever, we will just have it after our 2 yr wedding anniversary and get the 10yr GC but of course they *****ally planned it 2 weeks before our anniversary

            Hi Boogiewoogie,

Congrats to you and your spouse. I actually followed your timeline after you replied to a question that I had, since originally you filled in the Washington DC Merrifield office. That's nice that your journey is finally over and that you can get your GC soon. Thanks for sharing your comments and timeline along the way and best luck to you and your spouse!

                    Hi,

For the additional paperwork that I brought to the interview, I used a big binder like this https://www.staples.com/Staples-1534...product_779991
The interviewer took it off, then used her own hole puncher that makes 2 holes on top and then added it to the paperwork i submitted initially.

You can if you want go to staples or office depot and use their hole puncher, punch ON TOP END and then use this https://www.staples.com/Staples-Pron...roduct_1798823
This is what they use in the legal world and what they also use at USCIS. Thats what i used for my initial paperwork also.
Now I have a box of 100 of those at home for nothing lol

To be honest, all these things really do not matter for your case.
Yes it's nice for the officer but this should not in any way affect your case!

I noticed you expedited based on expiration of L1B - I'm in the exact boat. L1B expires in August and with EAD approvals looking like they now take up to 7.5 months, worried I may have to go that round (I applied 1/18/19). Didn't think it was possible to expedite because we have a dual income...but just wondering what your strategy was.

                          Hi Jpecht,

I expedited based on severe financial loss, doesnt matter if you have dual income, you would still have big financial loss if you would lose your gig.
I will PM you the details of my letter

As a follow up on my initial post, i got an email today that my I485 has been approved on 5/31, which is exactly our 2 yr wedding anniversary.
