Maintaining Status?

Immihelp,
This is the best forum.
One of my friend got I-140 approved in EB1 (EA) self petition.
1. Is it necessary to maintain H1B status for him till he gets his green card.
2. In case of loss of job can he move to H4 for just maintaining status, without affecting pending I-485.

1. Not needed after filing I-485.
