  • Evidence of marriage, for I-130 shortly after wedding

    Hi,

Just got married a few weeks ago, and working on the paper work for my wife's green card.

Reading on here, it sounds like people include everything but the ******* sink as evidence of a real marriage. But since we only just got married, we don't have much evidence yet. Haven't started merging finances yet, though we can work on this over the next few weeks, if it will help? Her name isn't on the deed to my house, and she's only just now moving in.

My question is, do they expect that all that evidence now, or is that not until our 2 year anniversary, when we go to remove the conditional limitation with I-751? Surely they don't expect people who only just got married to have months of joint bank statements, etc? We'll probably have that when we file I-751. We have lots of photos, since we've been dating for 2+ years. But photos are not a suggested type of evidence on the instructions for I-130.

Does the interview happen within the next 6 months, before she gets the conditional green card, or no interview until we file I-751?

Thanks guys! Looks like you have a great community here!

They dont expect that of course, but there are certain things you can prove and then certain steps you can take to get the rest of the evidence. So if you have been togheter 2 years you should have trips taken together , activities done, phone, email, mail conversations. She does not have to be on the deed of your house, but she can change her adress to your house have the change of adress official letter and mail received there as evidance. Also have utility bill on both names, same with phone. Anything you buy for the house as she moves or additional expanses proving moving (like receipts or so) keep that as evidance as well. Wedding preparations, like receipts from the rings both, honeymoon, comunications about the wedding with vendors, friends, family, reservations. Getting her added to your debit or credit card is usually less than an hour or you can apply for a joint bank account which can even be done online. What people have been doing is getting a joint bank account or credit card and put that as payment of some phone, gas, internet bill. Theny you take a screenshot or something showing that this same joint account number is linked and used to lets say pay yuor mobile phone bill (it will be the number of the card, last digits or so). Car insurances and medical'health inssurance as well can be joint. If you have a good standing with a neigbor let them write an affidavid that they see you both there living on daily basis. These are all things that you should have or can be gathered within a month. As far as they excpect now from what I have read its avery good idea to have as much as you can now. If you read the stickies you will see cases where evidance were not submited at the time of failing and they received notice of denail.I would deff spend extra time to gather some of those prior filing. At the end of the day you have to get this anyway and they can actually RFE for more evidance. Even if the staments and bills are recent and show minimal to no transactions it still joint account which is better than no account. And you can link the bills to the joint bank account and show that you did. Good luck! You will get an interviwe date whithin 6 month or more depending on your area. If you have been married 2 or more years at the time of your aproval (after the initial interview) she will get 10 years Green card. If this is less than 2 years she will get a 2 year conditional green card and can apply for removal of conditions after this expire.
