Adjusting status, starting to fill out from I-765

Hello,

my husband was a DACA recipient. But last year when he tried to renew it, they denied him.

SO.
on the form I765, there is a question asking, "what is the current immigration status."

what should my husband put?
DACA-denied? Out of status? Help please!

DACA isn't a status. He was out of status even when he was on DACA. He can put "out of status" or "<whatever status he entered on> (expired)" (e.g. "B2 (expired)").
