  • Trip to Puerto Rico without Advance parole

I don't have my advance parole yet, and my husband and I are considering a trip to PR in July.
Has anyone done that? Will it really be just like a domestic flight without costums? I am worried about entering both PR and back in the main land.
    TIA

You should be fine as long as your bring your I-485 receipt.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

you dont even need your 485 receipt. I went with my wife a few months ago (shes doing AOS) and she just brought her canadian passport. Its as if though youre flying within the USA. Its a domestic flight, there are no customs.

It's a little complicated because people report that they do go through CBP checks when flying to the US from a US territory, and they do need a passport, even though they are both inside the US immigration system. But people have also reported that they were fine going through without a valid visa, unlike an entry to the US which needs a valid visa, so they are probably just checking that you are staying legally in the US. Having a pending I-485 allows you to stay in the US, so that is why it is probably fine with an I-485 receipt.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

You are correct. People have different experience and you can't tell which one you'll end up with.
I just wish that there were clear rules about it. I hate this "there's always a risk" kind of thing.

I flew from Fort Lauderdale to San Juan and back in July 2018. I took my passport and all my immigration receipts with, and no one asked me for anything. I used my drivers licence to go through TSA in FLL and SJU. They made me scan my bags through a customs agriculture scanner when leaving SJU, but otherwise it was exactly like boarding a domestic flight.

I didn't have my AP yet at the time either, but my lawyer assured me that it would be fine as I wasn't leaving the US.

it's good to hear stories from someone that went through it.
They do the same agriculture scan in Hawaii.
