  • Social Security Card

    Hi!

I received my combo card about 10-15 days ago but not my social security card. Not a big deal, I already have one. But my combo card has my new name while my ss card is in my maiden name, so I basically asked for a new card for consistency. How long did it take for you to receive your card after your combo?

    thanks!

14 days for us. I visited the SS office at day 11 after EAD and they told me that the card was already in the mail.

If you don't get it this week, then visit the SS office.

Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox

You go to the social security office to change your name with your marriage certificate and tour GC and it takes like two weeks

oh so USCIS will send SS card to us? When I got EAD for my OPT, I had to go to my local SSA, filled in some forms, met an officer then they'd send me my ss card in the mail. I thought I'd have to repeat those steps again but apparently USCIS will send us our new SS cards too?

No. with old I-765 I also had to go to local SSA for CPT SS card.
Now form I-765 has an option to share the information to SSA, so they can send you the SS card.

nana.p they should send you the SS card by mail. If it takes more than 14 days after EAD on hand, then go to your local SS office and ask about it.

I have read that some people get the SS card 1 day before or the same day as EAD, most around 7 days later, for us it was exactly 2 weeks after we received the EAD. I haven't read any report for more than 2 weeks. Hope you get yours soon.

Still haven’t received mine and it’s been exactly 14 days! Guess I’ll go make friends at my local social security office soon.

Just a heads up...I went to the Social Security Office this morning and...USCIS never sent the request to the SS administration! Well I could have done it myself anyway since it's just a name change (which they did right away), but I wanted to let you guys know that you shouldn't wait too long if you don't get it.

Good info. I think going after 7 days from EAD on hand is safe (to give plenty of time for USCIS to share the needed info to SSA), they will tell you if they have the request or not and if the card is going to production or already in the mail.

Correct! In my case, they literally heard nothing from USCIS although I'm certain I checked the box.
