  • Request for Initial and Additional Evidence

In the past I have read about RFIE (Request for Initial Evidence) and RFE (Request for Evidence), but I can't find information about Request for Initial and Additional Evidence.

Is this the same as RFIE or could be a document combining RFIE and RFE into one? Like asking for 2 or more documents (one initial and one additional or more)?

After more than 6 months I didn't expect an RFIE.

I've gotten 2 RFEs. One was an RFIE 4 months after filing when my case was still in National Benefit Center, for i-864, the income on my husbands tax return from 2 years ago wasn't sufficient cos he was a graduate student, and we ended up asking my mother in law to be a joint sponsor.

The second one was an RFE I got at the interview at my field office, for my birth certificate notarial.

Wow queen of RFEs lol.... I'm kidding that was really unfortunate.

Now they can even deny an application without issuing any RFE, sick. As for the term "Request for Initial and Additional Evidence", I would say yeah maybe they're asking for more than one evidence.
      PD - 3/2/2018
      Biometrics - sometime in April
      RFIE - 7/3
Response to RFE received - 7/16
Case ready to be scheduled for interview - 8/14
EAD is being produced - 9/4
Combo card in hand - 9/11
      Interview is scheduled - 1/18/2019
      Interview - 2/26/2019

I have never seen a "Request for Initial and Additional Evidence" only "Request for Initial Evidence" and "Request for Additional Evidence" by themselves so maybe it combines both requests. I received an RFIE two weeks after I filed my AOS to submit additional tax documents.
        1/10/2019: Filed AOS (NBC, marriage-based)
1/24/2019: USCIS sent Request for Initial Evidence.
        1/31/2019: Biometrics appointment.
        2/1/2019: Fingerprint review completed.
3/15/2019: Request for Initial Evidence returned to USCIS.
        4/18/2019: USCIS sent Courtesy Letter.
4/23/2019: Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview.
6/11/2019: Filed EAD expedited processing request through Congressman.
        6/26/2019: EAD in production.

I know receiving an RFE can be unpleasant, but if you give them what they need, they're going to schedule you for the interview right after!
who knows what it might be...2018 taxes, or some document that needs translation. Fingers crossed! You're almost there!

My case status just updated for Request for initial Evidence as of yesterday and they claimed they send it out June 4th and I’m so anxious and nerves all together.

I don't know if there is a way to be sure about how an RFE affect the processing time. All cases are unique.

In theory, if someone start looking at our files and see that something is needed, the RFE will stop any advance until it is fulfilled. So I guess at least a week for the letter to arrive + time to send the information back + time they take to look at the RFE documents + time they take to start looking at our files again.

My wishful thinking: is going to be the letter asking for I693 as initial evidence and 2018 tax transcripts for additional evidence

RFE for i-693? That's kind of extreme...usually they send the courtesy letter.
My assumption is they want to schedule your interview soon.

                          Hi all,
This is my first time here. Please guide me if anyone of you have gone through my situation. My husband filed for AOS by employer he is holding valid H1B visa and I am on H4. We got approved for EAD and AP. I travelled to India on my AP after attending GC interview to take care of family emergency. Mean while during the visit my husband status approved and received GC but I received an RFE saying to submit my medical again. But during my visit to India my EAD and H4 got expired and in mean while before I got visa extension my husband received GC and his H1 status is not valid anymore. Now, I don't have valid visa or EAD to come back to US to answer my query. What is the best solution please suggest. Our attorney says to go for consular processing but they are saying it may take year. My kids school is going to start and I need to move back .We had genuine reason to come to India and no intention to abandon AOS. Please kindly advise on my situation. Any help is highly appreciated . We are pressed of time as they gave a time limit until september 5. Thank you in advance.
